A Lake Tahoe Tradition Continues

One January highlight every year is the annual Spaghetti Feed and Bingo Bash and Silent Auction for Sierra Senior Services.  This is the 14th year of the event.   This event has grown over the years – selling out the last seven..  It epitomizes the area so well – fun loving people out to enjoy themselves, while helping others in need.

Proceeds from the event go towards helping the area’s senior citizens. Sierra Senior Services has served at-risk individuals 60 years of age or older in the Truckee/North Lake Tahoe area since 2001, providing home-delivered meals by caring and dedicated community volunteers Monday through Friday.  Volunteers bring food and friendship along with a daily wellness check to isolated seniors. As of July 1, 2014, they estimate over 30,000 meals have been served.bingo

Their delivery area is approximately 850 square miles – from Donner summit up Highway 89 to Hirschdale and from Incline Village to Tahoma on the West Shore.  Two-thirds of the seniors are home bound, 83% live alone, 68% are renters, 52% are disabled, 75% are over the age of 75.

They Also Offer:

  • Daily Wellness Checks. Delivery volunteer drivers bring a hot meal, some conversation and a daily health check to home-bound seniors.
  • Safety Net Checks to be sure people are okay and safe in their homes.
  • Library Assistance
  • Monthly Blood Pressure Clinic
  • Fun Activities and Socialization
  • Health & Wellness Seminars
  • Resources and Referrals
