According to the Chili Appreciation Society International, “There are just about as many theories of how and where chili originated as there are unique family chili recipes. The primary one arose from the “Chili Queens” on Military Plaza in San Antonio, from the mid-19th Century through the early 20th Century. These business ladies sold a meat dish called “Chili Con Carne”, referring to the chili pepper and beef combination. And of course, frijoles (beans) were available (as should be) as a side dish”. No matter what the history is, or if you think beans should not be in a bowl of chili, enjoy as much chili that you can eat at the 40th Annual Chili on the Comstock in Virginia City. Wash the chili down at the Craft Beer Tour featuring pours from local saloons and craft breweries. And don’t forget, this is a chili competition so be sure to vote for your favorite chili!
