The Nevada Museum of Art’s First Thursday has gone virtual. Tune in for a special broadcast with Lucas Paul, a local indie-folk artist with a touch of southwest influence. Faculty and students from Kid Rocker will join him for exclusive art introductions, discussions, and more. This event will be held on the museum’s Facebook page, or it can be accessed here. Performing in the Dark: The Sudden Disappearance of Live Entertainment

Nevada Humanities presents a virtual exhibition series of “Performing in the Dark: The Sudden Disappearance of Live Entertainment,” curated by Miranda Alam, an award-winning Las Vegas photographer. This exhibition highlights the sudden disappearance of live entertainment in the world’s entertainment capital and captures society caught amid a global pandemic. Participants can experience the visions of Nevada photojournalists who once spent their days and nights documenting intimate performances and world-renowned productions. Sierra Arts Foundation presents a virtual version of  “Propelling Nevada: Communities, Heritage, Education & Economy Through the Arts,” an exhibition at the Reno Tahoe International Airport. This display is intended to highlight the positive economic impact of arts within the state during the 81st Nevada Legislative Session and can only be viewed by ticketed passengers in the airport’s C concourse. Turning Pages: A Monthly Reading Group

 

 

This virtual reading group will cover North and South By Elizabeth Gaskell, the love story of a middle-class southerner witnessing changes wrought by England’s early industrialization period. The HELLO Project is hosting the virtual gathering series, “It Starts with Hello,” to raise awareness around socio-economic factors that contribute to feelings of hopelessness and suicidal ideation amongst the elderly. As a virtual support group, local experts will share information on wellness-related topics such as mindfulness, exercise, nutrition, and mental health. Women and the Arts and Crafts Movement: “What Can a Woman Do?”                               

The Nevada Museum of Arts is hosting the “Women and the Arts and Crafts Movement: “What Can Women Do?”, an interactive discussion with Wendy Kaplan, LACMA Department Head and Curator of Decorative Arts and Design. She will explore women’s leadership roles in social and economic reform and restrictions they encountered that prevented their full participation. 6th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival

 

 

The 6th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival will celebrate Earth Day with Mountain Area Preservation, a grassroots environmental nonprofit advocating for responsible development in the Truckee/Tahoe area. 2021 Reno/Sparks Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention

The Nevada Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is planning its annual “Out of the Darkness Walk” for the Reno/Sparks region. Every year more than a quarter-million people walk together nationwide to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate communities and advocate for better public policies.
