With so many July events in Reno/Sparks, the Biggest Little City is busy! First, Artown brings more than 500 events, activities, performances, and workshops to Northern Nevada. For the entire month of July, Reno is Artown! Regarded as one of the most comprehensive arts festivals in the country by the National Endowment for the Arts, Artown has been embraced by the community since 1996. This arts and cultural festival features more than 500 multidisciplinary events, including music, dance, theater, visual arts, workshops, art walks, and much more. Artown invests in bringing artists of the highest caliber to Reno while elevating Reno’s own local talent. Most of the events are free.

The region’s longest, most spectacular fireworks display is set off from the roof of the Nugget Casino Resort while thousands of revelers celebrate the nation’s birthday on Victorian Square below. The 7th Annual Biggest Little City Wing Fest welcomes thousands of attendees and spices up Virginia Street with more than 20,000 pounds of chicken wings. More than 20 wing cookers will participate, competing for the best sauces and new found fans. What started as an event with local restaurants and caterers is now attracting cookers from all over the county, including California, Colorado, and Montana. Wing cookers will set-up shop along Virginia Street in downtown Reno and compete for Reno’s tastiest honors with their most creative sauces. Many returning cookers use the opportunity to debut a brand new sauce during the weekend event. Free live entertainment will rock the streets on outdoor stages, and there’s fun shopping. A local celebrity wing judging tops off the delicious holiday weekend event.
July Events in Reno/Sparks: Reawakening The Great Basin: A Native American Arts And Culture Gathering

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony comes together with the Nevada Museum of Art at Hands ON! on Second Saturday to celebrate Native American art, culture, community, and tradition. During this free Artown event, the public is invited to meet several established and emerging Native American visual artists from across the region, who will sell their traditional and contemporary creations and share their knowledge. Numerous performing artists will demonstrate a variety of traditional dances. The gathering also features basket weaving, creation of Tule duck decoys, hand game demonstrations, Language and Culture Youth Storytellers, Indian tacos, Native American Royalty, hands-on art projects, gallery talks, and storytelling. Bring the whole family to learn, listen, shop, participate, and celebrate during this very special community day.

Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern takes a new look at how the renowned modernist artist proclaimed her progressive, independent lifestyle through a self-crafted public persona—including her clothing and the way she posed for the camera. The exhibition expands our understanding of O’Keeffe by focusing on her wardrobe, shown for the first time alongside key paintings and photographs. It confirms and explores her determination to be in charge of how the world understood her identity and artistic values. In addition to selected paintings and items of clothing, the exhibition presents photographs of O’Keeffe and her homes by Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz, Philippe Halsman, Yousuf Karsh, Cecil Beaton, Andy Warhol, Bruce Weber, Todd Webb, and others.

This year marks 21 years of the Barracuda Championship bringing first-class professional athletes to Reno-Tahoe. A favorite among golf professionals, the Barracuda Championship is one of only 47 stops on the PGA TOUR and the only stop offering the Modified Stableford playing format. This scoring system encourages professionals to play aggressively as lower scores on more difficult holes are handsomely rewarded. The format creates a thrilling, drama-filled atmosphere for spectators and players alike! OUR Center proudly hosts the Northern Nevada Pride festival and parade at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. The event celebrates gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and friends to come together in pride! There are new people to meet, new things to do, and new ways to be involved. This year, a new parade route will start on 4th Street and travel down Court Street to end at Wingfield Park. Participants can enjoy music and entertainment, food vendors, and educational and service booths from local businesses and nonprofits.
