Donner Lake is a residential neighborhood just west of Truckee. The focal point is, of course, the beautiful alpine lake. The lake is named after the fated Donner Party that was stranded at the lake during the winter of 1846. Donner Lake has a State Park at one end with a Donner Party Museum and nice sandy beaches at the other end. Warm summer days can be spent on the lake or relaxing on the public piers along the north side. Donner Lake is also close to world- class skiing and all the other recreational opportunities the Truckee/Tahoe area has to offer.

At Donner Lake, the homes range from small mountain cabins to condos to custom lakefront homes. Currently, there are 19 homes on the market ranging in price from $298,000 to $4,900,000. There are 6 homes in escrow ranging in price from $289,000 to $675,000. Like many areas in California, Donner Lake is seeing a shortage of inventory and brisk sales.

Sales at Donner Lake this year-to-date are up 23% over the same period in 2011. There were 26% fewer short sales and foreclosures this year compared to 2011. Median sold prices went up 44%  – which is great news for sellers! This is partly due to the fact that in 2011 during the same period only one home sold for more than $1,000,000 and in 2012 5 homes have sold so far for over $1,000,000.

The ‘other lake’ -Donner Lake -has so much to offer! Check it out next time you are in Truckee.
