Mother Nature is lashing out today in the Sierra Nevada.  Tomorrow will be a skier’s delight, but today it is worth staying home and being safe.

Washoe County has issued an Avalanche Hazzard Alert for Incline Village and Crystal Bay.  Obviously not the norm, but this storm is very cold and is dumping very dry, powdery snow on the Sierra, making avalanches a possibilty.  Here’s the warning from Washoe County:

Avalanche Hazard Alert-  If the winter storm continues at it’s current intensity, avalanches in Crystal Bay, Nevada that could reach houses are highly probable throughout the late afternoon and evening.  We do not anticipate that avalanches will cause any serious damage to homes, but residents are advised to remain indoors, and do not leave or return to your home until the storm has abated and notice is received that it is safe to be outside.
