Ever wonder what to do with old medication that may be hanging around in your medicine cabinet? Don’t flush it down the toilet or throw it away! Medications disposed of in these manners end up polluting our environment and water system. But you certainly don’t want to just keep them if no longer using them, either. 7 of the 10 most commonly abused drugs by teenagers are prescription medications found in their home. Thankfully, there is an easy option for those in the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe areas. On Saturday, September 29th, from 9am to 1pm, you can safely dipsose of old medications at two area locations. In Truckee, drop them off at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Substation at 10879 Donner Pass Road (next to the Library) and in Tahoe City at the North Tahoe Fire Protection District at 222 Fairway Drive. Over the Counter drugs are acceptable to turn in and also remember to mark out any personal information if bringing in your prescriptions.
