Northern Nevada welcomes fall with a hearty “hello” to a full month of events and festivals. Most of these events are staples of the region, such as the Genoa Candy Dance, which celebrates its 98th birthday this year! From art to candy to motorcycles, there’s an event for everyone this September.

Burning Man

Tens of thousands of people gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, a temporary and vibrant metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-reliance, and self-expression. Burning Man is a practice in community – “Burners” create art, exchange ideas, and participate in the burning of the Man, a symbol whose meaning is as varied as the attendees themselves.

Best in the West Nugget Rib Cookoff

Hosted by the Nugget Casino Resort, the 29th annual event transforms the Labor Day holiday into a must-attend culinary, music, craft, and family end-of-summer affair. Enjoy ribs from 23 of the best cookers from across the world! Shuttles, admission, and live entertainment are free.

After a week on the Black Rock Desert, burners extend their experience and decompress at this mid-way point between the festival world and “the default world.” The event hosts pool parties and concerts at three connected resorts, with more than nine different venues.

The Great Reno Balloon Race

Soaring high above the Reno skyline, more than of 80 beautiful hot-air balloons take flight during the world’s largest free hot-air balloon festival. Wake up early and catch the Glow Show and Dawn Patrol when balloons twinkle against the dark sky. It’s worth it! Pro tip: dress in layers, it really is coldest before the dawn.

International Camel & Ostrich Races

Camels, ostriches, and zebras—oh my! See all three race at this historic (and hilarious) annual affair. After the races, join the Camel Hump to C Street where thirsty camels have been known to duck into a bar or two.

National Championship Air Races

See six different classes of race planes and get up-close access to aircraft, pilots, and crews in the “pits.” Experience the roar of planes as they streak past you at just 50 feet from the ground during this one-of-a-kind event.

Genoa Candy Dance

Experience a 98-year old tradition at the annual Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire in picturesque Genoa. More than 300 vendors offer craft shopping, delicious homemade candy, and food.

Street Vibrations Fall Rally

Enjoy motorcycle heaven at this celebration of music, metal, and motorcycle at the last great rally of the season and in downtown Reno, Tahoe, Carson and Virginia City. The event is open to the public to enjoy free live entertainment and shop at vendor booths.
