Join as Fredina Drye Romero discusses Native American Education in Nevada. The session will open with a slow, looking exercise and discussion of two artworks by artist Jean LaMarr whose work is currently on view at the museum.
Romero has been working in education for nearly 20 years and currently serves as the Education Programs Professional for Indian Education at the Nevada Department of Education. She is from the Southern Paiute Tribe and enrolled with her father’s tribe, the Kaibab Band of Paiutes in northern Arizona. She has close affiliations to her mother’s tribe, the Moapa Band of Paiutes in southern Nevada.

Dr. Debra Harry, Associate Professor in the Department of Gender, Race, and Identity, University of Nevada, Reno, will moderate a conversation and Q&A following the presentation.
Harjo has worked for decades to shape a national Native American policy agenda that addresses issues at the core of Indigenous identity: sacred places protection and repatriation, religious freedom, treaty, and inherent sovereign rights, mascot eradication, and language revitalization.
