For a relatively small, geographically isolated spot, the Tahoe/Truckee area boasts a wealth of talent of all ages. It will be on display later this month in the Truckee Community Theater’s inaugural fund raiser, Broadway at the Park. The lights will go up on Friday, August 28th at 8 pm in the Truckee River Regional Park, 10050 Brockway Road in Truckee. This is one not to miss!
Broadway at the Park features talent from our local schools and the community writ large, as well as the Truckee Community Chorus members. The show will feature music and numbers from some of your favorite Broadway bests, including A Chorus Line, Les Miserables, South Pacific and more. Dickson family members are a crucial part of this show. Kane Schaller is a key member of the troupe, performing in a number of songs, and Listing Coordinator, Ginny Pomroy, is a long-time member of the Truckee Community Chorus. Space in our Dickson office is even being used for rehearsals at night!
The Truckee Community Theater produces a number of shows every year. Generally, there is a major production, which most recently was The King & I, accompanied by two mini-shows featuring younger local talent. The shows are always raved about by attendees. Rehearsals go on for months before the shows as the actors hone their work to a top notch level. Seamstresses work diligently on the costuming, which is truly impressive for such a small organization.
The roots of Truckee Community Theater began in 2011 when Courtney Simson and her husband moved to Truckee from San Diego. Courtney had been involved in Community Theater for many years and saw a need for it here. She began to partner with our local Parks & Rec Department to offer acting classes to the local youth. Soon productions featuring hundreds of locals – kids and adults – began to spring forth. Past productions have included ‘Oklahoma”, ‘Annie’ and ‘The Miracle Worker’. On the program for this coming fall is Into the Woods Jr., and The Crucible, as well as magical holiday one-act plays, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and A Christmas Memory.
