‘Tis the season of giving, and locally, the best way to give to those in need is through the Truckee Community Christmas. This is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) umbrella organization that coordinates various drives that are happening during the holidays to help families in need in the Truckee area. Community Christmas works with agencies such as the Family Resource Center, Project MANA and area schools and churches to identify needy families and then provide food, grocery gift cards and an age-appropriate toy for each child in the family. The senior program provides gifts, food and grocery gift cards to identified low income seniors and to area homebound seniors. These are challenging times, and without Truckee Community Christmas, many members of our community would not be able to enjoy the traditions of the holidays. All goods provided to recipients are donated by community members.
Last year, Truckee Community Christmas benefited approximately 215 families, 25 teenage moms and their babies, 60 low-income seniors and 72 home-bound seniors. All residents in the Truckee area are invited to pitch in and help where they can!
If your time is in short supply – and whose isn’t? – please consider a cash donation. These are vital in order to cover any shortages in the drives, and to provide food gift cards for the recipients. Financial contributions of any size are greatly appreciated! And remember, all donations are tax deductible!
