Last year’s first annual Margie Powell Hike was a big success…hiking in Summit Canyon, exploring petroglyphs, the Lincoln Highway, the 1914 underpass, the China Wall, and the railroad.
This year’s 4-mile hike should prove to be the same! Flat and easy, the hike will go around Summit Valley, exploring the mortars and metates and learning a number of things about the area including the Native Americans, the Summit Valley Ice Company, and the 1863 Dutch Flat Donner Lake Wagon Road. You’ll also view the sheep industry remnants, the site of a hotel and cabin, and more.
Offered on two days, August 10th and August 11th, plan to meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Van Norden Dam parking lot opposite the Soda Springs Ski Area. And don’t forget your lunch, water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and hat.
