As the weather turns warm, it’s time to break out the hiking boots and hit the trail for a Reno hiking adventure. And while a long-trek can be an enjoyable way to pass the time between sunrise and sunset, sometimes you need a journey that’s more bite-sized. In those cases, check out these 9 short hikes you can do in a few hours or less.

Cross Peak Trail

The views from the peak of this trail in west Reno, which overlooks Caughlin Ranch, are worth the final steep steps.

Dorostkar Park Nature Trail

Located along the Truckee River, this nature trail is extremely popular with hikers, dog walkers, and families.

Galena Creek Recreation Area

Galena Creek Recreation Area offers a variety of trails in length and difficulty. For a shorter trek, try the Galena Creek Nature Trail.

Hidden Valley Regional Park

Another hub of trails, Hidden Valley Regional Park also provides a variety of experiences. Try the Inner Loop or the South Park Loop for shorter, less steep trails.

Keystone Canyon Trail

This dog-friendly trail is a bit longer at 4.8 miles, but hikers will be rewarded with scenic views of Reno.

Lower Galena Creek Trail

Try this 3.8-mile trail for a meandering walk that’s lined with fragrant Jeffrey pine and Douglas fir trees.

Miners Trail to The “N”

What this trail lacks in shade, it makes up for in views. Try hiking early in the morning to take advantage of cooler temperatures.

Oxbow Nature Study Area Trail

This one-mile loop is a little oasis located about a mile west of downtown Reno (keep going on Second Street past Keystone).

Silver Willow Trail

Located in Somersett, this 1-mile trail passes by Morgan Creek.
