Over the past decade, northern Nevada’s locally-crafted beer scene has fermented and grown. Now, beer drinkers can find almost every type of brew crafted in Reno or the surrounding areas. Next time you’re thinking about throwing back a pint, consider doing it at one of these local breweries.

Alibi Ale Works: Tahoe Brewery & Public House

Incline Village

Alibi Ale Works produces a wide range of frequently rotating beers with pure Lake Tahoe water. Its beer line-up brings together traditional European styles, super-fresh hoppy beers, and innovative one-offs. Barrel-aged and funky/sour/mixed-culture beers frequently rotate through its tap line-up.

REVISION Brewing Company

Sparks

Founders Jeremy Warren and Jeb Taylor combined their passion for brewing great, fresh beer to create Revision Brewing Company. Warren and Taylor are best known for winning first place at the Bistro 12th Annual Double IPA Festival, where Taylor’s Knee Deep’s Hoptologist beat out Russian River’s Pliny the Elder. The brewery is best known for hop bombs, but it also produces non-hoppy seasonals, barrel-aged brews, and sours.

Brasserie Saint James

Reno

Brasserie Saint James is an old world style craft brewery and restaurant, in the historic Crystal Springs Ice and Water building. The brewery specializes in complex, delicate and nuanced beers.

Lead Dog Brewing Co.

Reno

Lead Dog Brewing, founded in 2016, is located in the heart of Reno’s Brewery District on Fourth Street. At the brewery, you can meet Roxy, the mascot, and the original Lead Dog, and sip on one of the many brews on tap, such as the Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout.

Pigeon Head Brewery

Reno

Pigeon Head Brewery, Reno’s first lager brewery, specializes in lagers and fine ales. Located in the old SPCA building hidden under the Wells Avenue overpass on Fifth Street, the brewery usually has four to five standard beers on tap with other seasonal and limited release beers.

Under the Rose Brewing Company

Reno

While Under the Rose Brewing Company started on Fourth Street, it is getting ready to expand to a new Midtown location by April 2017. The new nanobrewery will feature make smaller experimental batches while the original location will serve up Under the Rose’s original brews.

The Brew Brothers

Located in the Eldorado Reno, the Brew Brothers offers eight custom microbrews and a full menu, including gourmet wood-fired pizzas, salads, burgers, ribs, sandwiches, homemade soups and complete dinners. The Brew Brothers was voted Best Brewpub in the US by Nightclub & Bar magazine and “Best Microbrew, “Best Beer Selection” and “Best Live Music” in several Best of Reno polls.

The Depot Craft Brewery Distillery 

Reno

Housed in a historic three-story brick building, The Depot Craft Brewery and Distillery pays homage to traditional beer styles while exploring new frontiers. The brewery makes almost 30 different types of beers, from ales to IPAs and barleywines.

Occidental Brewing Co.

Sparks

Originally from Portland, Occidental Brewing Co. recently expanded to northern Nevada with a new location in Baldini’s Casino in Sparks. The production brewery will produce Occidental’s German-style ales and lagers for the Nevada area.

Shoe Tree Brewing Company

Carson City

Founded by brothers Jeff and Paul Young., Shoe Tree Brewing Co. offers a blend of both traditional and experimental brews. Located at the Historic Carson Hot Springs, the brewery produces beer on a 7-barrel system that is available at the onsite tasting room.

Silver Peak Brewery

Reno

Silver Peak serves up its regular house brews and seasonal beers at its two locations in Reno. The original Silver Peak Brewery is located on Wonder St. in Midtown and the second location is in the heart of Downtown Reno on 1st and Sierra St.

Virginia City Brewery and Tap House

Virginia City

Sip on a bit of history at the Virginia City Brewery & Taphouse, which is housed in a building that dates back to 1875. It is the first brewery to operate in Virginia City since 1995 and features handcrafted beers inspired by the spirit of Nevada.

IMBĪB Custom Brews specializes in old-world barrel aged beers and has a variety of malty, hoppy, and easy drinking brews. The brewery offers a membership club, custom recipe project, and educational experiences.

Great Basin Brewing Co.

Great Basin is the state’s largest and oldest currently operating brewery. Great Basin brews several different beer styles and maintains ten to fourteen beers on tap. Make sure to try the flagship Ichthyosaur IPA—but ask for it by its nickname “Icky.”
