Truckee River Watershed Council Offers River Friendly Landscaping Program for Homeowners

Did you know that the average lot in our area loses one ton of soil per year? This is a major source of pollution in our streams and the Truckee River. Rainfall, snowmelt, or even irrigation picks up pollutants such as fine sediment from bare soil, and carries it into rivers, wetlands, and lakes.

The Truckee River Watershed Council is offering a River-Friendly Landscaping program that helps Truckee-area homeowners understand how soil erosion from their properties adversely affects the Truckee River watershed.  It also improves water quality by assisting residential property owners in voluntarily reducing or preventing soil erosion. It covers older and established neighborhoods within the Town of Truckee, Placer County, Nevada County, and within other related counties in California within the Truckee River watershed

This is a FREE, voluntary program to improve your yard. Run by the Truckee River Watershed Council, the purpose is to improve water quality by preventing or reducing soil erosion from residential properties. The program provides homeowners with landscaping recommendations and UP TO $1,000 reimbursement to install soil erosion control measures. And you get a beautiful, low-maintenance yard in the process!

As an added incentive, eligible homeowners can receive a rebate intended to reimburse costs for labor and material costs (until all rebate funds are exhausted).

Homeowners are eligible to receive the complimentary full-color guide to landscaping in the Sierra Nevada, the Yard and Garden Guide.
